HOW TO GET TO PHU QUOC

Entry to Phu Quoc requires you to bring your passport with you. Since Phu Quoc is a remote island, the only transportation to Phu Quoc is either riding an aircraft or arriving by boat. Phu Quoc has an international airport and seaport. International routes include Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

Alternatively, domestic rules include Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi. The entire area is a special economic zone. Here are two ways to get to Phu Quoc.

By Bus and Boat from Ho Chi Minh City

It is possible to travel from HCMC to Phu Quoc by land and sea, but bus+boat is not a good option, especially if you have limited time or long travel is uncomfortable for you. Travelling time can take you about 12 hours in total, and you can choose either to travel day or overnight.

The only reason you may want to consider this trip is to see some Vietnamese countryside on your bus journey. Anyway, if you still considering this route because of the adventure opportunities, here’s a recommendable path.

From Ho Chi Minh City, travel to Rach Gia by bus for 9 hours. Ride a boat from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc for about 2.5 hours. The easiest way to do this is to hit up any travel agencies in HCMC at the backpacker’s street/walking street and book a bus that will take care of all the bus and boat transfers on your behalf.

  • Cost: $18-30 for bus tickets, $14-$23 for the ferry ticket price, per pax

By Plane

The most comfortable and fastest way on how to get to Phu Quoc is to get on an aeroplane. At least 14 direct flights are going from HCMC to Phu Quoc. The earliest departure is 6 am and as late as 7:30 pm. A regular taxi is the best way to get to the city from Phu Quoc airport when you arrive.

  • Travel time from Hanoi: 2 hours
  • Travel time from HCMC: 1 hour
