Top 10 Family Ski Destinations of 2024 Every American Should Visit

If you are deep into skiing, a holiday on the slopes with the family in tow will ensure hours of fun and laughter and an unforgettable ski experience.

The ten unmissable destinations listed here have been picked for their location, skiing for all abilities, leisure activities for adults and children and overall family-friendly ambience.

All these destinations offer family ski holidays for all levels, ski school options, and plenty of restaurants and bars with wide menu offerings.

1 . Plagne 1800

This is a cozy retreat in the Paradiski ski area, with plenty of activities to keep both kids and adults entertained during the trip.

Plagne 1800 is a far better option than the main Plagne Centre. It is prettier and appeals to children and parents alike.

Leisure activities include a deep nature spa, sports centre, snowshoeing, electric snowmobiling and paragliding.

Suggested family accommodation options are Chalet Nicole and Chalet Delphine among others

2. Reberty 2000

This picturesque resort offers a fantastic family experience with the traditional Savoyard charm in a lovely setting in the world-famous 3 Valleys ski area 

In addition, Reberty 2000 has loads of après-ski entertainment, such as tobogganing and paragliding, and family-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy the local cuisine.

Recommended places to stay in Reberty 2000 are Chalet Katie 1 and Chalet Eva.

3. Les Bruyeres

Easy ski-in and ski-out facilities, high-altitude skiing, and a range of slopes catered to all skiing abilities have thoroughly endeared Les Bruyeres to families with children.

Despite being the foremost linked area all the ski chalets are just a quick lift away below the highest resort of Val Thorens.

After skiing activities include dog sledding, paragliding, night sledging for children and a toboggan run speed mountain ride.

Chalet Le Corbeau and Chalet Agile are two good staying options for families in Les Bruyeres.

4. Les Gets

For more than 30 years, Les Gets has gained an enviable reputation for being extremely family-friendly. It offers excellent local facilities combined with high-class skiing.

Les Gets is just 75 minutes from the Geneva airport, making it the perfect holiday destination for families with small children.

Moreover, adults and children can spend time at the cinema,on an outdoor skating rink, or indulge in a massage through a mobile massage service called Massage Me.

A stunning new property by the name of Chalet Cocon des Neiges offers a choice of family suites and is located close to the village center.

5. Val Thorens

At 2300m, this is Europe’s highest ski resort, which guarantees good snow all season. Because of the high altitude, the compact resort is great for families with older children.

The skiing terrain is excellent for both professionals and beginners, and if you don’t fancy skiing, there is a sports centre,ice diving, and mountain-top zip-lining.

Dining options are plenty, and as far as accommodation is concerned, check out the elegant Chalet Faucon or Chalet Le Corbeau.

6. Morzine

Morzine is an inviting village in the well-known Portes du Soleil ski area,close to the border with Switzerland.Here, you can ski from Morzine to Les Gets and eleven other linked resorts, which are a hit with parents and kids.

The resort has been designed with families in mind, as walking between the ski lifts is not in the least demanding. Les Gets appeals more to beginners and young families.

Les Gets has over 450 km of world class skiing and excellent after ski activities as night sledging, snowshoeing, outdoor skating rink, swimming pool, bowling alley, dog sledding and a cinema.

Recommended Chalets near Morzine include Chalet Zormine and Chalet Central,both cater to families with children of all ages 

7. Belle Plagne 

Located a little above the ski resort of Plagne 1800 and the Plagne Centre,this resort is full of character with structures made totally with wood and stone.The car-free village area makes it ideal for families, especially when you have to carry around the heavy ski equipment.

There are 425 km of vintage skiing slopes in Belle Plagne which can be enjoyed by skiers of all levels. Accommodation and leisure activities here are few and far between because of its easy link with the Plagne Centre where entertainment options are endless as detailed above.

8. Tignes

Tignes is another resort well-suited to families, as it has plenty of ski schools and childcare facilities. In fact, children can access the snow from the age of three through any of the ski school programs.

Tignes also has scores of dining options, including a low-priced family-friendly menu and takeaway. Activities for kids include the new Lagoon Centre, which has a 2.5-meter swimming pool.

On the whole, as far as stay is concerned, families are very well taken care of as the accommodation in Tignes is purpose-built. Chalets are designed to get on the snow in the minimum time to avoid catching a ski bus, for example. Some good places to make a base with children are Hotel Le Taos and Residence Ynycio, which offer easy access to the Grande Motte funicular.

9. Val d’Isere

Making up as much as half of the entire Espace Killy skiing area, Val d’Isere has over 300 km of ski terrain with special slow zones dedicated to children and beginners. Ski schools like Progression and TDC lead the way in imparting ski skills to first-timers.

After leaving the crackling ski area, you will find insanely good après-ski, with the original Folie Douce rocking the audience every afternoon.

Wood and stone buildings add to the traditional look of Val d’Isere and properties like Chalet La Rocheure and Hotel Avenue Lodge are the eternal family favorites.

10. Meribel

With 600 km of skiing, the Meribel ski area is the biggest in the world. It is situated in the heart of the 3 Valleys, with enough new runs and fairytale pistes for kids to discover on every visit. Founded and loved by a generation of families,Meribel has a fabulous, homely feeling.

Meribel is split into distinct zones, some quieter than the others, which makes it perfect for families. Children can start their ski lessons from the age of three. Activities here include sledging, luge, indoor ice skating, bowling, dog sledding and cinema.

Chalet Le Cèdre Blanc and Chalet L’Ancolie are good places to stay in Meribel for a family with kids. Challenging and dangerous slopes must be avoided with family. Many families choose to come to Meribel because of the range of catered and self-catered chalets.
